Montecristo Automatic Chronograph

In the Tuscan Archipelago, far from the tourist trails, lies a wild and mysterious island: Montecristo. With its rocky coastline and crystal-clear waters, it was declared an “Integral Biogenetic Nature Reserve” in 1971.

Today it is practically uninhabited, but in past centuries it was first a place of worship associated with Jupiter and then the site of the old Christian monastery from which it takes its name. The monks themselves are said to have gained great power and wealth over time. So much so that they attracted privateers, who, in search of legendary treasure, destroyed the monastery in 1553.

It was Alexandre Dumas who revived the legend in his famous novel, The Count of Monte Cristo, introducing the island’s wonders to the world. Since then, it has remained an unattainable myth, a cherished land filled with charm and secrets.

An Island of TREASURES

The Locman Montecristo collection stems from here, from the power of unspoilt nature and the emotions aroused by the sea. It was created in the late ’90s as something rare and unique, like the island that inspired it.

In 2009 the collection was transformed, both technically and in terms of design: the aesthetics became more powerful and “muscular”, with ultra-modern, hyper-functional lines, and the mechanics were more advanced, with the movement reworked by the SIO (Scuola Italiana di Orologeria – Italian School of Watchmaking) founded by Locman on Elba in 2006.

In 2014, the Locman Montecristo Automatic Chronograph was launched. Two years later, the company celebrated its 30th anniversary with a dedicated special edition. And now the 516 version has arrived.

Powerful design
FUNCTIONAL LINES

The Locman Montecristo Automatic Chronograph 516 retains the iconic design that made it a success but has undergone substantial modifications by the design department. As always, the case is made of hypoallergenic materials such as titanium and 316L steel, but now has a monoblock construction that includes the typical three-bar lugs. The bezel and pushers are embellished with a Rose Gold PVD treatment. Water-resistance is guaranteed to 10 atm.

The dial, enamelled with a sunburst effect, has three counters: the hour and minute counters are at 12 and 6 o’clock respectively, while the continuous seconds counter is at 9 o’clock. The self-winding mechanical movement, calibre SIO/DP CH 77, is the result of a collaboration between the SIO’s master watchmakers and a traditional Swiss artisan workshop.

It features an oscillating weight customised with the LOCMAN ITALY logo and is visible through the transparent aperture on the case back. Accurate, reliable and durable, it comes with a three-year warranty.
